The certificate of Veterinary Education (CVEd) program at the Lincoln Memorial University Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) is aimed a current veterinary professionals (DVM/VMDs and credentialed veterinary technicians) who currently teach or plan to teach in a veterinary education setting, such as a DVM or veterinary technician or technology program. It is a 100% online, asynchronous program that will span between two and four semesters, depending on the student's selected enrollment (full or part time). The focus of the program goals is veterinary education; therefore, the assignments and settings for the instruction in these courses are aimed at educating veterinary students. Veterinary doctors and credentialed technicians will find application of the content of these courses applicable to their work with these students.
Some of the information in the Certificate program is general to education in any post-secondary setting. However, whenever possible, the information presented is specific to teaching students in a veterinary setting. For example, the learning objectives discussed in the objectives lectures are the AVMA veterinary and technician competencies and the AAVMC CBVE Domains. While much of the information will be transferrable to a clinical situation, please be aware that the main focus of the certificate is to help current or future faculty enhance the education of students.  There will be assignments and discussions that involve interactions with students, so it is expected that applicants are actively engaging with students or trainees.
If an interested applicant works with new hires in a clinical setting, please be aware that much of the content is aimed at lecture and lab instruction. Many of the discussions and assignments will be focused on groups of students, from twenty to over a hundred, that are the norm in educational settings. Applicants looking for enhanced skills training for veterinary technicians in clinical settings are encouraged to investigate the Master of Veterinary Clinical Care (MVCC) program at LMU-CVM.
